    Description: 
    Full-length portrait of St. Francis. He wears a monk's robe and cowl. His arms are stretched straight out on either side of his body. The bottom front of his robe is ceramic tile mosaic. The mosaic scene depicts a choir of people wearing long robes and holding a long sheet of music between them. Above the choir are four portrait heads of Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. On each side of the mosaic is the elongated figure of a child with arms raised to embrace the scene. The metal sculpture stands on a concrete base.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture was commissioned by former San Francisco mayor Joseph Alioto in 1968 after the King and Kennedy assassinations. The sculpture was cast from melted down guns which were turned in by citizens of San Francisco. The sculpture was donated to the city by the artist in 1977. IAS files contain copy of article from San Francisco Examiner, May 12, 1977, and related city correspondence and transcripts of Visual Arts Committee resolution, no. 9527-1969-S.
