Description:
The pediment frieze over the entrance of a courthouse depicts the advancement of civilization under the law and features a central female figure representing Justice, or Victory, flanked by ten historical and allegorical male figures. The male figures from left to right represent: Righteousness, Numa Pompilius, Justinian I, Pampimian, Cicero, (Justice or Victory), Force, Paris, Solomon, Moses, and Demosthenes. The female figure is seated on a throne and holds a staff in her proper left hand and a book in her proper right hand. Many of the male figures hold either a book, a

Remarks:
The pediment frieze was supplied by the A. P. Lomband Company. The courthouse cost about $180,000 to build and was erected by a resolution of the Greene County Board of Supervisors. The courthouse plaque reads: Erected 1908-1909/William J. Beardsley, Architect/Peter Keeler Building Company, Builder. IAS files contain excerpts from: "Dear Old Greene County," Catskill, NY, 1915, pg. 63-65, 72-73; and "The Green County Court House, Its Diamond Jubilee, 1910-1985."
