    Description: 
    Three standing female figures with loose drapery and long flowing hair are installed separately against a lattice back drop. The figure on the left faces forward and holds a guitar in her proper left hand. Her proper right hand is at her hip. The center figure faces forward and holds a bird in the crook of her proper right arm. She holds up a piece of fruit with her proper left hand. The figure on the right faces forward and holds a scroll with her proper left hand at the bottom and her proper right hand at the top of the scroll.

    Provenance: 
    Formerly in the collection of Mellon, R. B., Mrs., 6500 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania through 1940.
    Remarks: 
    The three maidens were commissioned for Mrs. R. B. Mellon's Renaissance Garden at her home on Fifth Avenue, were installed in stone niches in a brick wall. After the house was demolished in 1940, the sculptures were later moved to the garden of Phipps Conservatory.
