    Description: 
    A miner working underground holds a jackleg drill against a rocky wall with his proper right hand, while examining a rock in his proper left hand. The miner wears a miner's hat with a light affixed to it, a short-sleeved shirt, suspenders, gloves and a belt with pouches.

    Remarks: 
    Created in commemoration of the Northwest Mining Association's centennial. The sculpture cost $45,000. It is dedicated to the continuing increase of people's understanding of their dependence on the development of earth's natural resources. IAS files contain a July 1994 article from the Spokane Herald Review.
