Description:
The stone is carved in relief with three vertical rows of emblems depicting on the left, crossed hammers, a yoke, and an unfurled scroll with a quill pen, and on the right, a pair of crossed keys, a pair of crossed staffs, and a pair of crossed swords. In the center of the stone there is a circular emblem depicting a star inside a triangle, inside a ring that is carved in relief with an inscription reading: GRAND DIVISION STATE OF ILLINOIS JAN. 8,1847 S. OF T. Inside the ring there is a small carved banner bearing the words LOVE PURITY & FIDELITY. Above this emblem there is an eye and below it there is an open Bible. Along the lower half of the stone there is an inscription carved in relief.

Remarks:
One of 193 commemorative stones set into the interior walls of the Washington Monument. The stones were donated by states, cities, towns, organizations, individuals, and foreign countries in honor of George Washington. The Sons of Temperance, Grand Division of Illinois donated the stone, which is located at the 210 ft. level.
