Inscription:  (Encircling figure:) WHEN THE SUN IS NOT SHINING I DO THIS FOR FUN Description:  Relief of a semi-reclining nude male with long hair, supporting a sundial. His proper left hand rests on top of the hand of the sundial, as though controlling it. Text inscription appears above and around him on a square-shaped background. Remarks:  Inscription work by Eric Gill. The figure was carved by Anthony Foster. This piece was carved for exhibition purposes, possibly from a pencil drawing and sketch by British artist Eric Gill, around March 1937 and sold to a customer in the United States.
