Behind her there is a bed with white sheets, pillows, and dotted swiss curtains. The woman is wearing a white lace cap, and a white dressing gown trimmed with a lavender sash and cuffs. In her left hand she holds a fan at her side, and in her right hand she holds a letter in her lap. A candlestick and two slim volumes rest on a table beside her.
