    The sculpture suffered significant damage in a 1906 earthquake and again in the October 17, 1989 Loma Preita earthquake. For further information see Katherine Wilson's book "Golden Gate Park" dated 1947, and Martin Snipper's "A Survey of Art Work in San Francisco" dated 1975.
