Remarks:
The sculpture was fashioned after a figure unearthed at Pompeii and held in the collection of the international museum in Naples. John H. Coffing, chairman of the monument committee, proposed the original design for the monument. The town's expense in erecting the monument was $6,610. Mr. Coffing is said to have contributed additional funds. IAS files contain copies of related articles from The Berkshire Courier, Aug. 23, 1876 and April 3, 1930.
