    Description: 
    The stone is carved in relief with a small profile portrait of George Washington surrounded by a laurel wreath. Beneath his portrait are relief images of a sculptor's tools, including a chisel, a mallet, and calipers, along with a collection of carved stone items, including columns, capitals, pedestals, markers, tablets, and an urn. A decorative border of carved oak leaves appears across the top and around of the sides of the stone. An incised inscription appears above the oak leaf border, and in banners at the top and bottom of the relief image.

    Remarks: 
    One of 193 commemorative stones set into the interior walls of the Washington Monument. The stones were donated by states, cities, towns, organizations, individuals, and foreign countries in honor of George Washington. The Association of Journeymen Stonecutters in Philadelphia donated the stone, which is located at the 40 ft. level.
