This relief is one of three allegorical relief panels installed above the Fenway Avenue entrance to the museum's Evans Wing. Allen's relief depicting an allegorical representation of Painting is on the far right side of the facade. His panel features a nude male and female figure seated back to back on either side of a relief depicting a garland of fruit draped between two torches. The male figure on the left holds a palette in his proper left hand and in his proper right hand he holds a paint brush up to a canvas. The female figure on the right examines a large bound volume held out in her proper left hand. Allen's relief panel is accompanied by Richard H. Recchia's relief panel on the far left side of the facade (IAS record 76007600) and Bela Lyon Pratt's relief panel in the center (IAS record 76007545).
