    Description: 
    Full-length figure of Herakles, who has just shot an arrow, stands on a rocky surface. The nude figure kneels on his proper right knee. His elevated proper left foot is perched on a vertical rock form. His proper left leg is positioned horizontally, with the knee slightly bent. He holds the bow in his extended proper left hand, the arm positioned parallel to the proper left leg. His proper right arm is drawn back as though he has just released the arrow.

    Remarks: 
    Cast no. 5/10. Gift of Mr. & Mrs. S. I. Newhouse and purchased in France by the director of the Slatkin Gallery for the University. The original sculpture, inspired by the archer on the Temple of Athena at Aegina, was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1910. Athlete and soldier Doyen Parigot posed for the sculpture. This cast was made at the Alexis Rudier Foundry for Rudier's personal collection. Another cast, No. 7, was exhibited at the Seattle World's Fair in 1962. IAS files contain a brochure from the University entitled "Art on Campus".
