Hearth of Atlantis, (sculpture). Artist:  Lorenzato, Ray, 1924- , sculptor. Title:  Hearth of Atlantis, (sculpture). Dates:  1983. Digital Reference:  Medium:  Carrara bardiglio marble. Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. 40 x 71 1/2 x 11 3/4 in.; Base: approx. 4 x 39 1/2 x 19 1/2 in. (2 tons including base.) Inscription:  unsigned Description:  "The central portion of the sculpture is a smooth-faced arch extending from its base and arching almost to the marble's top, creating the illusion of a fireplace. The two ends of the arch do not completely meet. The interior of the arched area is rough-hewn, concave marble. Extending out from the arch area, on either side, are wing-like portions blending from rough-hewn at the arch to smooth at the extremities. The wings tilt slightly toward the rear. The rear surface of the sculpture is almost identical to the front except that the wings tilt forward (as viewed from the rear) and the interior of the arch is convex. The base is carved with narrow ridges.
