Description:  A depiction of the Resurrection of Christ, one of ten scenes or niches within a large manmade cave called the Crystal Shrine Grotto. The background is a relief of a village on a hill with three empty crosses on a hill to the side. An empty cement tomb lies to the side of the background. Beside the tomb is a large limestone and wood figure of an angel. In the center of the background is a wood and limestone figure of Christ. IAS files contain an unpublished paper on Memphis Memorial Park, written around 1992 by Lisa Simpson, a former curator of Dixon Gallery & Gardens, Memphis, TN, which discusses the conception, planning and creation of the Crystal Shrine Grotto. Clovis Hinds, the original owner of Memorial Park Cemetery, commissioned the Grotto and helped with the planning; Dionicio Rodriguez sculpted the relief background; David Day created the figures. The Crystal Shrine Grotto was opened to the public in 1939, although the sculpture by Day wasn't completed until ca. 1970s. References:  Save Outdoor Sculpture, Tennessee survey, 1992.
