Sutter, atop a boulder. Sutter wears a three-piece suit, boots, and hat, and holds a rolled-up piece of paper in his proper left hand. His proper right hand is extended out with the palm open upward. His proper right leg is bent, with his proper right foot placed on a high spot on the boulder. A relief plaque on the boulder depicts Sutter's Fort.
