Remarks:
The memorial honors those from the City of Rochester and the County of Monroe who served during the Spanish American War, the
Philippine
Insurrection
, and the China Relief Expedition. The city and the county jointly appropriated $27,000 for the memorial. Originally, it was installed at Franklin Square on a limestone base in the center of a reflecting pool, but in 1960 it was moved to its current site and installed on a concrete base. IAS files contain newspaper articles from the Democrat and Chronicle (Rochester, NY), Oct. 26, 1941; May 4, 1940; Aug. 18, 1960; and May 27, 1960.
