    Description: 
    Relief sculpture consists of eight uniformed World War I era figures on a battlefield setting. All of the figures are varying degrees of combat stances, and the figure on the far right is seriously wounded. His proper left hand lies on the side of his head. He is supported by the soldier to the left.

    Remarks: 
    Title supplied by Inventory cataloger.
    Commissioned upon construction of the War Memorial Building, state headquarters for various veterans organizations, in 1939-1940. The project was financed with an appropriation from the Mississippi State Legislature and supplemented with Federal funds. Ray Scott, a friend and neighbor of the sculptor, posed for all the male figures. IAS files include a related article from Dixie, May 29, 1960 and a brochure from the War Memorial Building.
