    Description:
A war memorial comprised of a Union soldier standing atop a tall shaft decorated with portraits of Washington and Lincoln, a triumphant eagle, and inscription panels honoring the dead of four wars. The mustached Civil War soldier stands holding his rifle in front of him, the butt in front of his proper right foot. He is dressed in uniform, with a cap with bill and a knee-length coat with cape. A bayonet is attached to his belt at the proper left side and a square pouch shows under his cape in the back on his proper right side. His cape is folded back over his proper left shoulder.
The figure is mounted upon an ornately decorated, tapered shaft with a stepped bottom. The upper section of the shaft is decorated with a large plaque topped by a child's head and foliage swag. The front of the shaft features a G.A.R. badge. The right side features a bust-length relief of George Washington, copied after a Jean Antoine Houdon portrait. Seen in profile, Washington is dressed in a jacket and a ruffled shirt. His hair is tied in a ponytail at the nape of his neck. The left side features a relief portrait of Abraham Lincoln. On the rear, is a relief of an eagle perched above a drum and a pile of cannonballs, flanked by flags. The midsection of the shaft features military insignia, including, on the front, three stacked rifles; on the right, crossed cannons; on the left, crossed sabers; and on the rear, an anchor.
