    (On front of drum:) This Memorial Battle Drum is dedicated to those minutemen and militia of Middlesex County who first opposed British regulars in the Historic Battle of the North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts on April 19, 1775. Major John Buttrick of Concord, Lt. Col. John Robinson of Westford, and Capt. Isaac Davis of Acton, led their men to the bridge that British regulars took and guarded. The regulars fired on the Americans killing Capt. Davis and Pvt. Hosmer. The Americans battled back retaking the bridge and forcing a British retreat. More Middlesex County men arrived and battled British regulars in a running battle all the way to Charlestown. / David P. Christiana 2016 (On flag staff:) David P Christiana 2021 signed
    Description: 
    Life size bronze sculpture of a Revolutionary War battle drum encircled at the base with a wreath. The top of the drum bears the emblem of the Sons of the American Revolution adorned with a ribbon inscribed with "North Bridge." The front of the drum is inscribed with a description of the events that took place on April 19, 1775 when the minutemen and militia of Middlesex County battled British soldiers at the North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts. The drum is installed atop a granite boulder draped wtih a bronze flag of the Grand Union.

    The sculpture honors not only to the minutemen and militia of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, but also the men who led them --Major Buttrick of Concord, Lt. Col. John Robinson of Westford, and Capt. Isaac Davis of Acton --in the Battle of North Bridge at Concord, Massachusetts, the first military battle of the Revolutionary War. The North Bridge Memorial Drum is the first part to be completed on the Westford Minutemen and Revolutionary War Memorial. The memorial is funded by the Westford Remembers Memorial Fund. The sculpture is installed in the Westlawn Cemetery, the burial site for Lt. Col. John Robinson, one of the men who led the minutemen and militia of Middlsex County into battle at North Bridge on April 19, 1775. In addition to Lt. Col. Robinson, twenty-one Revolutionary War soldiers are buried in this historic cemetery.
