Remarks:
The sculpture commemorates Eunice Pharr Duson (1872-1907), for whom Eunice,
Louisiana
is named, and women who have contributed to the development of the area. Eunice Pharr Duson was the wife of the city's founder, C. C. Duson, and was called the "First Lady of the Cajun Prairie." The wildflowers she carries represent the beauty of the Cajun Prairie. The sculpture was commissioned by the Xi Beta Theta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and cost $49,000. IAS files contain a full transcription of the names on the base plaque. The sculpture's dedication in 1994 was part of the Centennial celebration of the town. A construction company from Eunice constructed the base.
