Description:
Six bas-relief allegorical figures representing the various rulers of
Louisiana
. On each end is an Indian flanking four female figures representing fromleft to right: Spain,
United
States
, Confederacy, and France. A coat of arms appears at the foot of each female figure and the left Indian. The Indian on the left, is seen in profile view and carries a bowl on his proper left shoulder. The Indian on the right, also seen in profile, is depicted walking, carrying a peace pipe and a patterned blanket in his proper left arm, and foliage in his proper right hand. The figure of Spain, wears a long gown and headpiece. She stands, holding a building and a boat before her. The figure of

, in a breastplate, wears braided hair topped by a multipointed crown, and holds an olive branch and arrows in her proper right and left hands, respectively. The figure of Confederacy wears a dress and earrings, hair in a bun, and holds a bouquet of flowers in her proper right hand. The figure of France wears a dress with bustle and a tri-cornered cap and feather. In her proper right hand she holds a decree, and in her proper left, a dagger-like object. Between the figures are bas-relief images representing Industry, Liberty, Power, and Learning. The images include a beehive, a torch and foliage, a fasces and axe, and an open book with an oil lamp.
