The path of polished granite is sandblasted on top with fifty or seventy photographs selected from the County Archives. The photographs go in descending chronological order. A Calusa Indian drawing of a dolphin is engraved on one end. On the other end there are two logos of Sarasota: one of the 1902 logo (1902 is the year of the city's incorporation) and one of the present logo.

    Remarks:
Commissioned by the Public Art Committee of the City of Sarasota with a contribution from the John E. Galvin Charitable Trust. The sculpture was the first public sculpture in Sarasota and it was commissioned through an international competition. Lucas Century made the stencils and sandblasted the images on the granite; David Stahl was the photographer; Harnas Builders was the concrete contractor; and Al's Tile Service was responsible for the granite facing. Citizens of Sarasota helped select photos. IAS files contain a brochure which includes the artist's statement about the sculpture and identification of each photograph. In 1997, the artist noted that the piece had been restored a few years before after an image slab had been stolen; and the caulking was replaced.
