A bronze sculpture of a male figure, representing a typical soldier of the early history of Texas, positioned on top of an architectural structure. The figure holds a rifle, gripping it with both hands, horizontally across his body. He stands atop a domed kiosk, the dome supported by four arches, whose ends spring from four square columns. The arches to the east and west are closed by semi-circular bronze relief plaques. The plaque on the west depicts a battle scene at the Alamo. The plaque on the east features a design of swords protruding from the sides of a tent, crossed by long rifles, a saddle bag, a horn, and a hat in front. The north and south arches have relief work, including a funeral urn with swords crossed behind it, and crossed cannons shown with a bell and pyramid of cannonballs. Each keystone carries a five-pointed star.
