    Description: 
    A pair of doors with eight bas-relief panels, four per door, depicts Alabama's history. The panel titles/themes are the Meeting of De Soto and Chief Tuscaloosa, the Arrival of the Bride Ship, Pelican, in Mobile, the British take Mobile, Stars and Stripes Raised in Mobile, Alabama Territory Settled, First Railroad in Alabama, First Capitol of the Confederacy and World War I Heroes Return. Panels are framed with a narrow band of lozenge molding enclosed by a wider modified egg and dart molding.

    Remarks: 
    The idea for the doors was conceived by Marie Bankhead Owen, Director of the Archives, in 1939. The doors were moved indoors in 1986. IAS files contain a related article from the Montgomery Advertiser, Sept. 3, 1992, the notes and program to a lecture given by Nathan Glick in 1992, an ADAH pamphlet on the doors, and a detailed explanation of each panel.
