Remarks:
In 1919, act no. 248 of the General Assembly of the State of Vermont (see IAS files for copy) appropriated $250 to match town funds to assist the the Women's Relief Corps, the auxiliary to the G.A.R. of Royalton, to erect the monument. On July 24, 1919, the local newspaper Herald & News reported that Thomas Adams & J. E. McNichol of Adams & McNichol (a monument firm from White River Junction) were in town for business. IAS files contain copies of the Royalton Town Records surrounding the events leading to the erection of the monument and a copy of the poem read at the dedication ceremony.
