Grantham Village School, Springfield Road, P. O. Box 287, Playground, Grantham, New Hampshire 03753
    Remarks:
The tree used for the sculpture was felled in a 1938 hurricane and found by the sculptor on his property in Potter Place. He brought the trunk to Grantham, where the school children helped with the creation of the sculpture. Winslow Eaves did the chain saw work and the students assisted with the chiseling. The sculpture was originally located at the old Grantham Village School on Dunbar Hill Road and was moved to its present location after the new school was built in 1982. The sculptor participated in the Artists-in-the-Schools Program, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and managed by the New Hampshire Commission on the Arts. IAS files contain detailed dimensions. IAS files contain a copy of an excerpt from David Ruell's typescript, "The Public Sculpture of New Hampshire," Concord, NH: New Hampshire Historical Society, 1980, pg. 290-296.
