The bust commemorates Swedish King and school namesake, Gustavus Adolphus (1594-1632). The sculpture was donated by the Fredrique and Erik Dahlberg Gustavus Adolphus Fund of Sweden, and installed by the alumni. Donations were made by Pyramid Granite Works of St. Cloud and Babcock and Wilson Kasota. At one time the lettering was painted black. The sculpture is occasionally painted by campus pranksters.
