ancestry, Hysteria of War, Camp Life and Post-War and Redress. Panels also include a map showing the location of the camps and a list of the camps by category. Monument also includes plaques of identification and acknowledgments) unsigned Founder's mark appears.
Description:
Bas-relief depicting the history of
Japanese
life in the United States, includes scenes of immigration, internment during World War II and current Japanese-American life. Text panels include documents ordering internment, a map of the camp, a list of the camps and historical background on all aspects of Japanese-American life.

Remarks:
The sculpture was commissioned by the San Jose Public Art Program and was initiated by the Commission on the Internment of Local
Japanese
Americans, established by the City Council in 1983. The memorial was created with funds of $170,000 from the City of San Jose transit mall art fund and $42,000 raised by the local Japanese-American community.
