    Description: 
    Totem pole tells the story of how Raven stole the sun, moon and stars and gave them to mankind. The figures from top to bottom include Raven, with black eyes, blue face, red beak and black wings, the Sun, with black eyes and red lips and rays, the Chief's Daughter, with black eyes lined with blue and red mouth, a Baby's face in blue and the Chief, with black eyes, blue lining and red nose and mouth.

    Remarks: 
    Commissioned by the City of Ketchikan to honor the Tongass Indians of the Tlingit tribe. The cedar log was donated by Sealaska Timber Corporation. The project was funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, a $20,000 grant from the Alaska State Council on the Arts and the State of Alaska Division of Tourism. The artist was assisted by his two nephews and apprentice carvers, Stanley Beven and Kenny McNeil. The totem was carved at the Totem Heritage Center as part of the Center's educational program. The pole was cleaned and repainted in Aug. 1994 by Norman Jackson. IAS files include the text of a nearby plaque which tells the Raven story and correspondence, financial information and other pertinent documentation from the City of Ketchikan.
