Description:
A gazebo sited on a lake which has an architectural feature for each
ethnic
group in the Powderhorn neighborhood. The roof arches represent the Asian-American residents. The thatch of color of the roof represents the Hispanic residents. The circular floor plan is from the Native-American teepee and village plans. The columns are taken from African reed bundles in Egyptian architecture. The arbors and railings are from
European
architecture. Cast animals are installed on the railings.

Remarks:
Commissioned for the Minneapolis Arts Commission Gateways Project by the Commission and the Powderhorn neighborhood of Minneapolis. The cost was $75,000. The animals were modeled and cast with the assistance of the Powderhorn Kids' Art Workshop. Spray paint and scratched graffiti was removed in the summer of 1995 by the artist and Museum Services (Minneapolis).
