Description:
The stone is carved in relief on the left side with a circular
Masonic
emblem
depicting a compass and L-square, with a G in the middle, and an open book below, all within a columned arch. Above the top of the arch is an eye with rays of sun radiating from it. On the left side of the arch is a crescent moon, a pylon, and two crossed keys. On the right side of the arch is a sun, a measuring device, and a beehive. The
Masonic
emblem
is surrounded by a ring bearing an inscription, carved in relief, reading: GRAND LODGE OF ALABAMA A.L. VDCCCXXI. At the top of the ring is a ribbon with an incised motto reading: Sit Lux et Lux Fuit.

Remarks:
One of 193 commemorative stones set into the interior walls of the Washington Monument. The stones were donated by states, cities, towns, organizations, individuals, and foreign countries in honor of George Washington. The Masons, Grand Lodge of Alabama donated the stone, which is located at the 140 ft. level.
