    (On base of all angels, except angel on proper right of tomb:) Clement J. Barnhorn (On base of angel on proper right of tomb:) Gorham Co. Founders (On angels:) 1923 (On center front of tomb, incised:) DUVENECK signed Founder's mark appears.
    Description: 
    Four angels stand on each corner of Duveneck's tomb. The angels wear robes and have large, outspread wings which are folded back against the front and sides of the tomb. A male angel on the proper left front holds a round tablet marked with the Chi-rho monogram, a symbol for Christ. The male angel on the proper right front holds a rectangular tablet, inscribed "surrexit/non/est hic." A female angel on the proper right rear holds a heart in her proper right hand. A male angel on the proper left rear has his proper left hand on his forehead and his proper right hand across his body. The tomb is rectangular and multitiered.

    Remarks: 
    Frank Duveneck, 1848-1919, was a renown artist of the American Realist movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Clement J. Barnhorn, was a friend and protege of Duveneck's, and they collaborated on several works of art. IAS files a short biography on Frank Duveneck. IAS files also contain related information from Reverend Freiberg's and Walter Anthony's "A Guide to the Cathedral," Covington, KY: Messenger, 1947, pg. 40-41; and an excerpt from an unidentified source on Barnhorn that gives 1924-1925 as the execution dates for Duveneck's sarcophagus.
