Description:
Bust of Gainsborough clad in a ruffled shirt and waistcoat. At the base is a carved painter's palette. The bust is installed in a shell-shaped niche on the front of the building over the entrance. To the left and right of the bust are friezes which feature figures of all ages dressed in
Greek
robes coming to worship a the altar of the arts.

Remarks:
Isidore Konti created the bust of Gainsborough and the frieze. Charles Buckham was the building's architect. The exterior tile work on the building was created by Moravian Tile Works of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The building was designed specifically as a cooperative artists living and working space. August Franzen as president of the original Gainsborough Corporation an d is thought to be responsible for the theme of the building.
