A portrait of Alexander Agassiz, depicted as a balding, mature man, sitting in a chair wearing an
academic
robe. He crosses his proper left leg and holds the arm of the chair with his proper right hand while resting his proper left hand in his lap. The sculpture is mounted upon a low, stepped base.

Alexander Agassiz (1835-1910) was a scientist and president of the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company. 1993 SOS! survey reports states that the sculpture may have been sandblasted in the past.
