Description:
L-shaped retaining wall set into a hill. The wall has inscriptions and a bas-relief of an assault rifle with bayonet jammed into the ground between a pair of boots; a helmet hangs on the butt. There is also a patio and a bench.

Remarks:
Cost of $40,000 funded through private donations, including an initial gift of $10,000 from the student senate. Honors the 55 University of Kansas alumni killed while serving in Vietnam. Designed by KU student Doran Abel, KU Professor Stephen Grabow, and architect Gregory L. Wade; constructed by workmen from the Office of Facilities Operations, Kansas Construction Company, and the J. T. Lardner Stone Company. IAS files contain related articles from Jayhawker (1986), pg. 54; The Oread, May 9, 1986 and Kansas Alumni (Sept. 1986). IAS files also contain an article from University Daily Kansan, Feb. 8, 1984, pg. 1, discussing an earlier design.
