    Description: 
    A miner stands with a sledgehammer and drill bit in his upraised proper right hand and a lunch bucket in his proper left hand. He has a moustache and wears a brimmed hard hat with a light on it. He also wears a checked flannel shirt, undershirt, wide belt, and boots.

    Remarks: 
    The sculpture is one of two placed at the Museum with the same title (see IAS NJ000312), and was originally sited outdoors on a different base. The sculpture was dedicated on May 7, 1972, during the seasonal opening of the museum. The original base had a plaque on front that read: THE ZINC MINER/DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY/OF THE MEN WHO WORKED/IN THE WORLD FAMOUS/FRANKLIN AND STERLING MINES/MAY 7, 1972. IAS files contain an article from The New Jersey Herald, May 14, 1972; and brochure from the museum entitled "The Original Franklin Mineral Museum and Mine Replica."
