    Description:
Waterscape with three barges, or canal boats, reflected on the surface of the water in the foreground on the southern edge of the Morris Canal Basin in Jersey City, New Jersey. The yellowish warm atmospheric view is east toward the Hudson River and lower Manhattan, and toward Brooklyn in the far distance. There are two freight houses, or terminals, on the docks behind the boats on the south bank of the canal. Sailboats are docked at the freight houses, and behind the sailboats on the left bank of the canal are warehouses/sugar houses. The scene is painted from the corner of Johnston and Jersey Avenues, looking slightly northeast, and the location is recorded by the artist on the back of the board. This location is now in the Liberty State Park, a New Jersey state park.
