    Remarks:
The sculpture depicts the struggle to build the first college building for Southern Utah University under a strict deadline established by the state. To meet the deadline, lumber had to be hauled from the mountains some thirty-five miles away, in the winter. The monument depicts Old Sorrell, a horse credited with saving the lives of college founders as they cut lumber on Cedar Mountain.
