Description:
Three bas-relief panels located above the entrance to the Mohawk Central School and set between the second and third story windows. The first panel on the left depicts in the foreground an old train with steam coming from its engine. The middle ground depicts a commercial
boat
with rigging and steam in a waterway. A log cabin is on the bank. The Washington Monument, the U.S. Capitol building, an unidentified building, and mountains are placed in the background. The middle panel contains a globe with North and South America placed atop decorative scroll work and flanked by stylized foliage at its lower level. The panel on the right depicts, in the foreground, a modern train on tracks; in the middle ground, a large

Remarks:
The relief panels were installed between 1949 and 1951, when the school entrance was redesigned as part of new addition construction done by the Mancuso Brothers of Utica. IAS files contain related articles from The Evening Telegram (Herkimer, NY), July 13, 1948 and July 28, 1949.
