Stylized lion carved from a pine log. The lion sits on its haunches with its head turned to the proper left. It has a full mane and its mouth is slightly open. Its tail, which is carved from a separate piece of wood and attached with screws near the base, is raised behind it. Part of the pine tree trunk remains as a self-base. The sculpture is stained brown and sits on a concrete pad flush with the surrounding ground.

The sculpture was commissioned by the school's principal, Jonathan Freeman, and was paid for by the school. The artist used designs submitted by the school's students when creating the sculpture. IAS files contain copy of related article from Lyme Gazette, Dec. 1994, pg. 4.
