VERNON N.Y. (On front of figure's base:) JAMES SCOTT/1831-1910 signed Founder's mark appears.
    Description: 
    An extensive fountain, rising in three levels from a lagoon to a central column of water. Water also comes out of the mouths of dolphins, lions, turtles, Neptunes, and Greek drinking horns all located on different levels. A seated of James Scott is on the eastern edge of the terrace. He is wearing a suit and has a coat draped over his knee.

    Scott left $500,000 to the City of Detroit to erect a fountain on Belle Isle in his memory. Cass Gilbert designed the fountain; Herbert Adams executed the figure of James Scott.
