Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. 5 ft. x 5 ft. x 10 in.; Base: 1/4 in. x 4 in. x 12 in. Inscription:  unsigned Description:  Standing Russian wolfhound executed in bronze. All four feet placed close together, legs straight and parallel. Back is arched, head and neck straining upwards with snout pointing to sky. Tail swings out behind in a graceful curve. Subject:  Animal -- Dog -- Wolfhound Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- Florida -- Jacksonville Sculpture Owner:  Administered by City of Jacksonville, Community Services Department, 421 West Church Street, Jacksonville, Florida Located Maxville Community Center, 10865 Pennsylvania Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida Remarks:  Installed in 1984 for $4,999 as part of a project to provide outdoor sculpture for selected community centers in Jacksonville. Funds were provided by the Community Development Block Grant Program administered by the City of Jacksonville, Department of Housing and Urban Development. Neighborhood selection committees awarded each of the final commissions. Sculpture was winning entry in a competition conducted November-December 1983. Artist created sculpture in 1981 as memorial to deceased pet. IAS files include copy of article from Jacksonville Journal (Feb. 16, 1984), and related HUD documentation, including site plans and dedication brochure.
