Description:
The stone is carved in relief with the
Vermont
state seal depicting rays of sun emanating from behind a decorative circular border containing an image of a cow standing by a tree and a shaft of wheat. At the top of the decorative circular border there is a profile view of a stag. Flanking the base of the circular border are leafy branches, with a ribbon banner below incised with FREEDOM AND UNITY. Letters spelling out
VERMONT
are carved in relief at the top of the stone.

Remarks:
One of 193 commemorative stones set into the interior walls of the Washington Monument. The stones were donated by states, cities, towns, organizations, individuals, and foreign countries in honor of George Washington. The State of
Vermont
donated the stone, which is located at the 170 ft. level.
