Montclair State University's Challenge Grant in the Fine and Performing Arts 1986-89 provided $25,000 for the sculpture. Once a year, Ophiucus the Snake Bearer, a constellation and the little-known 13th sign of the Zodiac, will be projected by moonlight onto the bottom disc. IAS files contain a related article from Artforum International (Nov. 1987): pg. 131, and an intra-university memo on the proposed sculpture from 1986. IAS files also contain transcription of a nearby plaque.
