His proper left arm is raised up towards his shoulder. He is dressed in traditional English attire, and is wearing a wig. He is looking towards his proper right side. Below the figure are three lions symbolizing the English Leons. The figures represent the peoples and nations who have occupied the area on which the fort stood. There is an outline of the fort on the wall above the figures; within the outline is the following inscription: FORT LOUIS-DE-LA-MOBILE/1711-1720/FORT CONDE/1720-1763/FORT CHARLOTTE/1763-1823. Below the figures an inscription on the wall reads: UPON THIS VERY SPOT WERE BUILT/THE FORTS WHICH GAVE PROTECTION/TO THAT TINY SETTLEMENT FROM/WHICH OUR CITY NOW HAS GROWN.
