    Description: 
    A pioneer farmer stands holding two sheaves of grain in front of him. He wears a wide-brimmed hat, a long-sleeved shirt and suspenders. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular base with a granite inlaid relief panel on the front depicting a town on the left, perhaps Winthrop, with a church, houses, a water tower, and trees. A train approaches the town on the right, smoke billowing from its stack.

    Remarks: 
    Sculpture is dedicated to pioneers of Winthrop, celebrating its centennial, 1881-1981. The inlaid panel on the base is in recognition of the railroads and their critical role in the development of Winthrop. Nearby plaque reads: "SCULPTURE DONATED BY (list of donors follows). IAS files contain a transcription of Centennial commemorative plaque mounted next to the front door of City Hall.
