    The sculpture honors A. Price Woodard, the first black mayor of Wichita and $30,000 in funding for the sculpture came from Urban Renewal funds. Plaque on separate concrete base reads: SCULPTURE/BY/HARRY BERTOIA/THIS WORK OF ART IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF/A. PRICE WOODARD MAYOR OF WICHITA, ATTORNEY/MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION AND HUMANITARIAN/A. PRICE WOODARD WAS A FRIEND OF ALL AND GAVE TO HIS COMMUNITY A FREE AND/OPEN SPIRIT.
