    Description: 
    An allegorical figure group featuring a seated female figure representing Science. In her proper left hand she holds a microscope. Seated on her proper left side, Steam is represented by a young male figure with a cloud of steam beneath his feet. On the other side of Science, Electricity is represented by a young boy standing on his toes with his arms extended and his head back. At his feet is a globe with a lightning bolt across the front. The sculpture is mounted on a tall rectangular stone base.

    Remarks: 
    This sculpture and its companion, "Labor, Art, Family" (IAS #MA000194), were originally installed on the Boston Post Office, but were relocated after the Post Office was razed in 1928. The sculptures were given to the City of Boston Park Department, and the Art Commisson approved a proposal to relocate them to the Zoological Gardens. In 1930, the John Evans & Company was awarded a contract to erect bases for the sculptures at a cost of $19,500.
