Inscription:  (Incised on upper left corner:) ARTEMIS unsigned Description:  Bas-relief reclining figure of Artemis on a portal to the Grecian Gardens. She wears a sheer, sleeveless drape and holds a quiver of arrows in her proper right hand, perched on her proper right leg. She leans on her proper left elbow on a draped surface and her hair is swept up. Subject:  Mythology -- Classical -- Artemis Object Type:  Outdoor Sculpture -- New York -- Yonkers Relief Sculpture Owner:  Administered by City of Yonkers, Parks & Recreation Department, 285 Nepperhan Avenue, Yonkers, New York 10701 Located Untermyer Park, 945 North Broadway, Grecian Gardens, Yonkers, New York Provenance:  Formerly in the collection of Untermyer, Samuel, 945 North Broadway, Yonkers, New York 1912-1940 Remarks:  Samuel Untermyer began constructing his new gardens on his Greystone estate in 1908. The Gardens were opened to the public in 1941 and became the property of the City in 1946. The Artemis relief was completely recut in 1974 by A. Ottavine as part of a major renovation of the Gardens. A second renovation occurred in 1994. Untermyer Park is a Registered Yonkers Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
