    Description: 
    Bas-relief reclining figure of Artemis on a portal to the Grecian Gardens. She wears a sheer, sleeveless drape and holds a quiver of arrows in her proper right hand, perched on her proper right leg. She leans on her proper left elbow on a draped surface and her hair is swept up.

    Remarks: 
    Samuel Untermyer began constructing his new gardens on his Greystone estate in 1908. The Gardens were opened to the public in 1941 and became the property of the City in 1946. The Artemis relief was completely recut in 1974 by A. Ottavine as part of a major renovation of the Gardens. A second renovation occurred in 1994. Untermyer Park is a Registered Yonkers Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. IAS files contain related articles from Suburbia Today (Yonkers, New York), Sept. 22, 1985; and the Yonkers Herald Statesman, June 17, 1970, May 6, 1974, and Oct. 4, 1974. IAS files also contain nomination form for the National Register.
