A portrait of Lincoln seated in a chair is installed atop a tall square base. A low curved bench is located behind the sculpture.

The sculpture and base were a gift of Thomas E. Brittingham, regent and benefactor of the
University
of
Wisconsin-Madison
.
Originally the sculpture was installed at the foot of Bascom Hill, but later it was moved to the top of Bascom Hill and a curved marble bench was installed behind it. The sculpture was rededicated in 1919 after it was moved to its new location. This sculpture is a replica of the Lincoln statue installed in Hodgenville, Kentucky (IAS record 75005328).
